In the end, GT needs to score five runs off of six balls. Rahul Tewatia is a left-hander in the crease, thus you don't really risk a left-arm fingerspinner in this scenario, even though Anukul Roy has an over left. Today, Cameron Green hasn't bowled at all.

Ramandeep Singh, a mild right-arm medium, then enters. and delivers a first ball that is wide. A bouncer came next. Although it's not particularly fast, it rises high enough from a sufficiently wide line outside off to cause Phillips to lose control of his pull. At deep midwicket, he is caught.

With two balls left, GT eventually prevails. Well done, but not very convincing.

Now, GT needs four out of five balls. And their Impact Player, Shahrukh Khan, enters.

Gill leaves, but GT stays at the top

In this chase, GT's middle order hasn't really impressed. Outside of the powerplay, Gill made just 52 off 34 before slicing Vaibhav Arora to deep point, where he was expertly collected by Cam Green, who dived forward.

Shubman Gill scored 86 off 50 balls

However, this goal is making GT appear unconvincing without actually putting them in danger of losing. KKR would really like to have produced 20 more. They could easily reach it.

Tamil Nadu versus Tamil Nadu

On that particular day, Varun Chakravarthy defeats Washington Sundar, who falls for 13 off 13 after being caught on the square leg boundary due to a weak, unconvincing pull. Narine attacks

KKR is under tremendous strain, but Sunil Narine's wicket eases it just a little. Narine used a rapid, bouncy offbreak from over the wicket to target Sai Sudharsan's sweep, which is a sort of pick-up sweep that he hopes to smash over backward square leg or fine leg. The offbreak was pitched outside leg, enticing that shot while putting the top edge into play. GT is 57 for 1 in 5.1 overs, and Lobs is up for a straightforward catch at short fine leg.

Update: After that, Jos Buttler enters the game and launches Narine over cover and mid-off for a four and a six off his first three balls. Narine then nearly hits him for length with a fast offbreak that rushes into him. He pulls up an inside-edged four-to-fine leg after becoming trapped in the crease and stabbing frantically at it.

At 71 for 1, GT ends the powerplay.

Gill and Sudharsan assume leadership

Shubman Gill is batting on 22 off 9 after three inside-out, smooth-as-butter fours and one inside-out, smooth-as-butter six in the first three overs (somehow the Hindi term makkhan expresses it so much better).

Anukul Roy is now 17 off 9 after Sai Sudharsan smacks him for two more sixes in the third over: a shovel-sweep over backward square leg and a shovel-drive over midwicket.

In three overs, GT is 40 for no loss.

I'm not sure if there is any dew—Gill speculated that it would appear at the toss—but batting appears to be lot simpler now than it was during KKR's innings. If it is dew, KKR's throw choice appears to be quite mediocre.

KKR 180 all out, Green struggles at the end

Green faced only two of the 22 deliveries in which KKR lost five wickets. Green then succeeds in going on strike and completely loses his fluency. A single to maintain strike for the final over and three dots against Prasidh, who continues to nail his yorkers. Then he takes a meaningless single to put No. 11 Vaibhav Arora on strike after two swings and misses against Rashid Khan, who had been having a miserable night up until that point. Green steps out, tries to whip one away, but misses after Vaibhav gets a single on the subsequent ball. Jos Buttler also misses the stumping, and KKR receives four byes.

And they won't score any more runs tonight. Green slashes and nicks off after Rashid launches a wide legbreak off the final ball. KKR has completely changed. Green's score has increased from 75 off 44 to 79 off 55. What an odd, weird evening.

A three-part innings. 27 out of 29. 48 off 13 after that. Then four out of eleven. Make some sense of it, please.

Narine is given a five-ball duck by Siraj

Narine had quite an innings. evaded a single short ball. In an attempt to go over the off side, I made room and hit at four full or length balls. missed three, then cut one into the air, allowing Glenn Phillips to make an athletic catch at backward point. Narine has rarely been very helpful when he begins his innings outside of the powerplay, which is one of the drawbacks of not starting with him.

In 17.3 overs, KKR is 166 for 8.

When Anukul Roy was removed, Green was on 75 off 44. Green has only faced one ball since then, and KKR has lost 4 for 19.

Update: Kartik Tyagi was run out while attempting to steal a bye and put Green back on strike. Green faced another ball and took another single, and KKR lost another wicket. 18.2 overs at 173 for 9.

Ramandeep's cameo is ended by Ashok

The slower, complete ball hits once more. The power required to clear long-on is not something Ramandeep Singh can produce. However, he had a nice little innings. He scored 17 from eight balls by hooking and uppercutting a six, two fours, and a glancing knock to the helmet when GT was going short at him till the ejection.

In 16.3 overs, KKR is 165 for 7. It's Sunil Narine. Can he provide Green with the assistance he needs to finish strong this innings?

Rabada receives his third

The season isn't going well for Rinku Singh, and his suffering goes on. Once more, there is some seam movement away from the batter and a strong length from over the wicket to the left-hander. Rabada can benefit from what worked for Prasidh. Rinku twists himself entirely out of shape as he tries to clear his front leg and smack it away.

Prasidh finishes a 60-run collaboration

In other words, Anukul Roy, the man who was fired, has made nine out of seven contributions to the partnership. In any case, Prasidh bowls well, gets a little bit of away nibble, and slants a good-length ball across the left-hander from above the wicket. He loses his shape and edges to the keeper in an attempt to make room and carve it away. In 14.5 overs, KKR is 147 for 5.

GT fray along the periphery

Rashid Khan has nowhere to hide as Green continues his incredible comeback, going 6, 4, 4 off the first three balls of the 14th over. The second four was a straightforward opportunity after a slog-sweep that he lets slip through his fingers at deep backward square leg, and Washington Sundar does him no favours.

Green is on 69 off 41 and KKR is 139 for 4 at the conclusion of the 14th over. KKR has scored 52 runs in the past three overs.

Green has shot up to 51 off 34 from 27 off 29. In just five balls, he has smashed a four and three sixes, two of which came off Ashok Sharma in a 19-run 13th over.

Can Green make things better?

With a control percentage in the mid-50s and a score of 27 off 29 balls, he was having a lot of trouble. However, he has since stepped up and hit Rashid Khan for a massive six before pulling the shortish follow-up for four. He is now on 37 off 31.

Anukul Roy also made a masterfully timed loft over extra-cover for four earlier in the over, and that 12th over gives KKR 16 runs. This is their biggest innings to yet.

Among the wickets was Ashok

Ashok Sharma uses a beautiful change of pace to defeat Rovman Powell. The word is change. In this over, the eleventh, he has bowled in the mid-140s on a few occasions, and his back-of-the-hand slower ball, which comes out with the correct seam position like a legspinner's toppie, only reaches 107 kph. Powell swings too early and holes out when it's full and floating up outside off, and Siraj comes in quite a distance from long-on to finish the catch.

In 11 overs, KKR is 87 for 4.

Movement of the seam

In my previous column, I stated that GT were getting the ball to swing but not receiving much help off the deck, which may have been a bit harsh on KKR. Rabada gets a few to nip, including one that results in a lbw appeal against Cameron Green, and I believe there is some seam movement as well.

At 37 for 3, KKR ends the powerplay. KKR has two entries in the top (bottom?) five, and it's the fifth-lowest six-over score in the 2026 Indian Premier League.

Rabada has another wicket

In four overs, KKR is 32 for 3. It wasn't their best powerplay. I'm not sure if the GT seamers will benefit much from the surface in terms of seam or indifferent bounce, but Siraj and Rabada have the new ball swinging into the fourth over. KKR hasn't been able to push the tempo, though. Now, Seifert gives his fellow countryman Glenn Phillips a quick slap. This was hittable due to its width; I believe the slight away-swerve caused him to grab for it and hit it off the low part of the bat.

Raghuvanshi is given to Rabada

The first and second overs are comparable. Seifert makes an early, powerful shot, pulling a six this time, and Kagiso Rabada makes an outswing. Raghuvanshi is sent back by that outswing as well as additional bounce from a hard length in the hallway. Test-match dismissal: the keeper has an advantage and an iffy poke. In two overs, KKR is 21 for 2.

In the first over, Siraj scores

In the first over, Mohammed Siraj consistently receives outswing. When Ajinkya Rahane comes on strike, he tries to take on a full ball first up and send it down the ground, but the outswing causes him to skew it high off the outer half of the bat. He then gives Tim Seifert an up-width second ball, which he hits away into the covers for four. KKR is 5 for 1 in 0.5 overs after being comfortably caught at mid-on.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi strolls in. He is not going to bat with Rahane today.

KKR bat, Seifert takes Allen's position

The Kolkata Knight Riders choose to bat against the Gujarat Titans.

In an attempt to turn things around in IPL 2026, the winless Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) significantly altered their top order. Finn Allen, who might be their best top-order option, was left out, and Tim Seifert, a fellow New Zealander, was brought in.

Ajinkya Rahane, the captain of KKR, decided to bat against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad after winning the toss because he believed it would allow his struggling batting lineup to play freely without the pressure of a target in front of them.

The GT captain, Shubman Gill, stated that he would have bowled anyhow. Although he didn't believe dew had been a significant influence in Ahmedabad thus far this season, he believed that given the increasing daytime temperatures, it could play a role in this game and future ones.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi's keeping gloves are probably going to be taken by Seifert. When KKR bowls, Varun Chakravarthy is most likely to come off the Impact Player bench.

After defeating the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), GT remained unaltered, and M Shahrukh Khan was probably going to come off the Impact bench for their pursuit.

KKR's hitting problems in a single Statsguru link

I apologise for making KKR the focus of a disproportionate amount of the build-up, but that's due to their current circumstances.

In any case, from the beginning of IPL 2025, Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi have spent more time in the middle than any other KKR duo. And observe how low their partnership run rate is in relation to all of their partnerships that have played at least thirty balls together.

That is probably their biggest problem at the moment, and it can't be that difficult to resolve.

How could everything have gone so wrong?

Watching KKR this season has made 2024—the year they won the IPL with one of the best-assembled teams in the competition's history—seem like a very long time ago.

What has gone wrong with them? Conversely, are things not necessarily as dire as they appear right now? Despite their difficult circumstances with the ball, they might appear much more competitive than they now do with a few strong innings from Finn Allen, Cam Green, or Rovman Powell. They have suffered from injuries to important fast bowlers at the beginning of the season. Tonight, could someone please ignite that spark for them?

KKR's point of no return?

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are aware that they will be in a do-or-die situation if they don't win in Ahmedabad. Furthermore, we are far from reaching the halfway point of the competition.

KKR's window of chance to score points is closing, and it won't be simple against the hosts Gujarat Titans (GT), who are full of confidence following a slow start.
