IPL 2026 Live Score for MI vs. PBKS: Prabhsimran and Iyer's brilliant chase of 196 with 21 balls remaining

Apr 16, 2026, 11:10 PM

Unbeaten PBKS masterfully completes the chase

We'll give you a sneak peek at our report, which is full of smiles for the Punjab Kings and a lot of things to think about for the Mumbai Indians. Please come back tomorrow.

As Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer destroyed the target of 196 with 21 balls left to be undefeated after five games, Quinton de Kock delivered one of the better innings in a losing cause. Arshdeep Singh led PBKS' crushing victory over the Mumbai Indians, who have now only won once in five games, by swinging the new ball, reversing the old one, and bowling a quiet over in the middle.

For the third wicket, Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh combined for 139 runs off 67 balls.
For the third wicket, Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh combined for 139 runs off 67 balls.

Rohit Sharma's injury was a blessing in disguise, allowing de Kock to play in his debut IPL match and become just the third player to strike a century for three different IPL teams. However, MI needed more clear blessings from somewhere to turn around their season. A promoted Naman Dhir hit 50 in just over five overs, and De Kock scored 112 in precisely ten overs, but the remainder of the innings never got going.

With two wickets in the powerplay, Allah Ghazanfar briefly threatened to stifle a usually raucous PBKS chase, but Prabhsimran and Iyer never allowed MI to re-enter. Prabhsimran, like Dhir and de Kock before him, had a respite on 11 and finished with an undefeated 80 off 39 to reach his incredible IPL 2026 total of 211 runs in 122 balls. He had never gone undefeated in an IPL chase before. After MI had taken two quick wickets, captain Shreyas Iyer hit an equally significant 66 from 35, beginning with a four off the opening ball.

Apr 16, 2026, 10:49 PM

Iyer also received fifty

Shreyas Iyer has matched Prabhsimran Singh shot for shot despite Singh's escape during the chase. Jasprit Bumrah's pulled six and pulled four were the innings' high points, but his first-ball four that prevented MI from recovering after two quick wickets was just as significant. It took him 31 balls to reach fifty, but after reaching that milestone, he switched gears and was out for 66 off 35. Now, PBKS just needs 12 off 27.

Apr 16, 2026, 10:38 PM

Bumrah travels as well

2nb 0 4 1 6 1w 1 1

Even Jasprit Bumrah bowling an over like that is a dead giveaway that it's your night. Shreyas Iyer's six was a contemptuous pull. With seven overs remaining, they now need little over seven per over.

Apr 16, 2026, 10:25 PM

Prabhsimran surpasses fifty

Prabhsimran Singh scored two consecutive half-centuries. At just 23 balls, he is undoubtedly the fastest of the evening. It took Naman Dhir 29 balls and Quinton de Kock 28 to get there. His lowest score of the season was 37, and he is in scorching form. MI has nowhere to go in this situation. PBKS 109 in 10.2 for two.

Apr 16, 2026, 10:01 PM

Bumrah 2-0-14-0

Although Jasprit Bumrah hasn't yet claimed a wicket, his bowling has been excellent. His failure to take a wicket has been extremely unlucky. Even in this instance, he stopped the PBKS charge after a 21-run opening over. MI has given up 47 in four overs outside of his two overs for 14. In six overs, PBKS scored 61 for 2.

Apr 16, 2026, 9:54 PM

Ghazanfar also receives Connolly

Here, Allah Ghazanfar is sustaining Mumbai Indians. Cooper Connolly's bat has cost them two sixes and a four because of that dropped catch, but he has him caught at the wicket with another non-turning delivery. In 4.3 overs, PBKS scored 45 for 2.

Apr 16, 2026, 9:52 PM

Prabhsimran is dropped by Bumrah

A failed run-out and a lost catch turned the first inning around. Before reviving MI's innings, Quinton de Kock and Naman Dhir both had reprieves. Here, Prabhsimran Singh cuts a slower ball from Hardik Pandya to the left of backward point for a regulation catch after ten balls for one run and one wicket, but Jasprit Bumrah loses it. Cooper Connolly is hitting a four and a six off the remainder of the over, as opposed to 11 balls, 1 run, 2 wickets, and a new hitter on strike. At 39 for 1 in four overs, PBKS is back on course.

Apr 16, 2026, 9:44 PM

Ghazanfar has an instant effect

As the Impact Player, Allah Ghazanfar is asked to enter the game as early as the third over. Priyansh Arya smashed a full ball right to midwicket, and he got away with it. He found the fielder flawlessly, but he nailed the connection. Arya's final five balls: the wicket and zero runs. After a really rude boundary first up, Jasprit Bumrah was hit with four dots. In 2.2 overs, PBKS 27 for 1.

Apr 16, 2026, 9:38 PM

Prabhsimran and Arya are heading to a flyer

0 0 0 0 0 1

A quite standard opening from Deepak Chahar that adds breadth and slides onto the legs. For Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, the PBKS openers, that is meat and drink at his pace. 21 is equal to 0. After this terrible beginning from Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah is compelled to open.

Apr 16, 2026, 9:20 PM

Despite de Kock's 112, MI remained at 195

Quinton de Kock scored 112 in precisely 10 overs during the MI innings. Just 83 runs were scored by the other end, including extras. 50 of those were scored in 5.1 overs by Naman Dhir. Dhir is forthright enough to admit that they feel 20 short, yet they defend themselves.

Apr 16, 2026, 9:13 PM

4-0-22-3 Arshdeep

In the end, the ball reversed somewhat, and Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen both tailed their yorkers. In his five-ball stay for one, poor Sherfane Rutherford gets four flawless yorkers before losing his middle stump to Arshdeep Singh. Two wickets and 26 runs have been scored in overs 17, 18, and 19. MI is now having trouble reaching 200 at 186 for 5 in N19.

Apr 16, 2026, 9:05 PM

Take advantage of this IPL?

Shreyas Iyer has made what is probably going to be the catch of this IPL, even if his name won't be on the scorecard. When he leaps up at long-on, he is full length. The ball still beats his right hand and lodges in his left, but he moves it from left to right and then tosses it back in while still in the air. Long-off player Xavier Bartlett has returned to take the relay. Iyer begs his "home" fans to cheer on the grab as he looks up at them. They are too shocked to respond. MI 175 for 3 in 17.3 overs, and Hardik Pandya is out for 14 off 12.

Apr 16, 2026, 9:00 PM

For de Kock, a hundred

After KL Rahul and Sanju Samson, Quinton de Kock is the only player to have scored hundreds for three separate IPL teams. In his first game of the year, he accomplished this. MI 169 for 3 in 17 overs in 53 balls.

Apr 16, 2026, 8:43 PM

Dhir too receives fifty, but Shashank's golden arm strikes once again

Here, Naman Dhir has shot for shot with Quinton de Kock. Dhir reached his fifty in 29 balls, while De Kock reached his fifty in 28. Additionally, he hit that beautiful six over extra cover. Rarely does he have the opportunity to bat that early in an inning. He has taken all the necessary steps to indicate that he can do so more frequently. In particular, he uses a compact bat stroke to generate power. Many of his shots have a bat flow similar to that of Hardik Pandya, who will be appreciative of what Dhir has accomplished. Additionally, he has taken over when Shashank Singh's lack of pace leads to a long-off catch.

MI 134 for 3 in 13.4 overs, Dhir 50 off 31.

Apr 16, 2026, 8:25 PM

De Kock receives fifty

In favour of a younger wicketkeeper-batter from the same nation, this is a statement knock from someone who was kept on the bench. He has been scoring off every ball since he opened with a silky six off an acrobatic extra-cover drive first ball. After moving down the wicket, Yuzvendra Chahal was mishandled with a slog-swept six and another. He reached fifty in twenty-eight balls, which is an outstanding achievement at 12 for 2. In ten overs, MI scored 97 for 2.

Apr 16, 2026, 8:07 PM

Chahal's evening worsens

6 1 6 4 1w 0 1

Yuzvendra Chahal has gone looking for wickets without having earned the right to do so in what is actually a fairly typical over. Both of those overpitched balls have hit the ground for sixes. Both hitters have tucked in. In seven overs, MI scored 67 for 2.

Apr 16, 2026, 8:02 PM

Dhir takes advantage of the previous powerplay over

0 4 0 4 6 1

Right now, you wouldn't want to be Yuzvendra Chahal. Take a look at what Naman Dhir, who was just reprieved by Chahal, did to Vijaykumar Vyshak's sixth over. Quinton de Kock was on the verge of being run out by PBKS, but the throw from mid-off failed. In six overs, MI 48 for 2.

Apr 16, 2026, 7:57 PM

Dhir is dropped by Chahal

After giving up his original end to Xavier Bartlett, Mr. Jansen receives a change of ends. And he is bowling cutters now that he is aware that the ball is not moving. Yuzvendra Chahal loses the ball in the lights at short fine, but he draws a sitter from Naman Dhir on the ramp. He doesn't have any headgear on to protect his eyes from the brightness, but he never does. In five overs, MI 33 for 2.

Apr 16, 2026, 7:43 PM

Make it 101

This bowling is astute. Arshdeep Singh is aware that during the first over, Suryakumar Yadav has observed him swing the ball from left to right. He will therefore be keeping an eye out for it. Surya is playing for inswing when Arshdeep flips the seam's angle in the direction of slip. carried to short third when the broad edge is taken by forceful hands. He's now on a hat-trick. and delivers an inswing to Naman Dhir, who has been promoted, but he keeps it out. In 2.3 overs, MI scored 12 for 2.

Apr 16, 2026, 7:41 PM

Arshdeep becomes a member of the Hundred Club

The 31st bowler in the IPL to reach 100 wickets is Arshdeep Singh. Ryan Rickelton's flick, which settles with a deep square leg, marks his hundredth. In 2.1 overs, MI 12 for 1.

Apr 16, 2026, 7:40 PM

Quinny, welcome

The first game of the season for Quinton de Kock. He first encounters his countryman Marco Jansen, who is opening the bowling for the first time due to two left-handed bats. He also executes a stunning extra-cover drive for a six in the air. In two overs, Mumbai Indians were 12 for 0.

Apr 16, 2026, 7:34 PM

The finest start for Arshdeep Singh

0 0 0 0 0 1

With steady movement away from Ryan Rickelton both in the air and off the pitch, Arshdeep Singh, who has gone at over 10.5 and over and taken just two wickets thus far, gets off to a wonderful start. In the first over, he gives up just one run while going past the bat three times.

Apr 16, 2026, 7:14 PM

PBKS field first, Rohit Sharma out

Rohit Sharma was out due to what appeared to be a hamstring injury he got during their most recent game, so the Mumbai Indians called back their long-time favourite Quinton de Kock. Hardik Pandya, the captain of MI, stated that they will evaluate him after a few games. Additionally, they lost the toss, and Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the undefeated Punjab Kings, had to decide whether to chase at the chase-friendly Wankhede Stadium.

Mitchell Santner, a left-arm spinner, missed time due to illness, which made it easier for MI to swap abroad players. Mayank Rawat, a rookie off-spin all-rounder from Delhi, took Santner's place. In 11 games, Rawat's batting strike rate was 123, and he bowled fewer than 1.5 overs each game for Delhi.

Trent Boult, a left-arm quick, was also absent from the MI starting lineup and bench. Sherfane Rutherford, who often sits out when MI bowls, was included in the starting lineup. When it comes time for MI to defend the total they post, AM Ghazanfar is probably going to be the Impact Player.

PBKS continued with their winning combination, as winning teams always do.

Mumbai Indians 1 Quinton de Kock (wk), 2 Ryan Rickelton, 3 Tilak Varma, 4 Suryakumar Yadav, 5 Hardik Pandya (capt.), 6 Sherfane Rutherford, 7 Naman Dhir, 8 Mayank Rawat, 9 Shardul Thakur, 10 Deepak Chahar, 11 Jasprit Bumrah

MI bench AM Ghazanfar, Corbin Bosch, Raj Bawa, Robin Minz, Ashwani Kumar

Punjab Kings 1 Priyansh Arya, 2 Prabhsimran Singh (wk), 3 Cooper Connolly, 4 Shreyas Iyer (capt.), 5 Shashank Singh, 6 Marcus Stoinis, 7 Marco Jansen, 8 Xavier Bartlett, 9 Vijaykumar Vyshak, 10 Arshdeep Singh, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal

PBKS bench Nehal Wadhera, Vishnu Vinod, Harpreet Brar, Suyansh Shedge, Yash Thakur

Apr 16, 2026, 6:52 PM

Mayank Rawat might participate

Mayank Rawat, an off-spin all-rounder from Delhi, appears to have received his Mumbai Indians cap. Tonight may be his IPL debut. The 26-year-old has represented Delhi in 11 Twenty20 matches and just one first-class match. His bowling economy is 7.59 and his hitting strike rate is 122.58. For Delhi, he averages less than two overs each game.

Apr 16, 2026, 6:30 PM

Rohit Sharma is the center of attention

who, incidentally, is not yet visible during the warm-ups. The severity of the injuries is still unknown. or whether we'll show up tonight. However, our best spotters are spotting. Ryan Rickelton has been observed fielding in the outfield while Robin Minz has been observed performing keeping drills.

Apr 16, 2026, 6:21 PM

Bhagat is signed by MI to replace Ankolekar

In order to replace the injured Atharva Ankolekar, MI has signed 21-year-old Punjab seamer Krish Bhagat. At his base salary of INR 30 lakh, he joins MI. Ankolekar, 25, sustained a knee injury during the Ranji Trophy season earlier this year and did not fully recover in time. For the previous two years, Bhagat has been a trial player for the Mumbai Indians. In 2026, he played for the Reliance squad in the DY Patil T20 Cup. Since the IPL 2026 preseason, he has been a support bowler at MI.

Bhagat has participated in nine List-A games and seven first-class games for Punjab. With a best of 3 for 33 in December 2025, he has nine List A wickets. In a Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter against Uttarakhand, he also scored 51 from No. 8.

Apr 16, 2026, 6:02 PM

Conditions and pitch

Mumbai's temperatures have suddenly risen, and an orange signal for a heat wave has been issued for this week. It will be difficult to play on Thursday night due to the predicted high temperature of the late 30s (Celsius) and the rising humidity before to the start of the monsoon. There was a lot of dew in the most recent match at the Wankhede, and although RCB won by batting first, the tendency has been to pursue.

Apr 16, 2026, 5:47 PM

Trivia and statistics

It will be intriguing to watch how Ryan Rickelton handles PBKS's left-arm quicks. He has scored 50 runs off 36 balls despite striking at just 139 and getting out twice against Arshdeep. Rickelton has scored 70 runs with a strike rate of 152 while facing Marco Jansen, however he has been removed three times in 46 balls.

After dismissing Prabhsimran three times while giving up just 31 runs in the same number of balls, Boult will be eager to bowl to him.

In the middle overs, how will MI defeat Chahal? Suryakumar and Hardik have each been dismissed four times by the legspinner; they struck at 132 and 95, respectively.

This IPL's four innings at the Wankhede have all resulted in totals of 220 or above.

Apr 16, 2026, 5:34 PM

In focus

Arshdeep Singh, India's other top T20I fast bowler, has been scoring runs in the IPL nearly like never before, even if Jasprit Bumrah has gone wicketless this season. Even though he just played three games during his rookie season in 2019, his economy rate of 10.64 is somewhat lower than that of 10.90. He hasn't taken a wicket in the powerplay in his last ten IPL innings, despite bowling just one over at the end of each game (17–20) and giving up just 8.50 in that phase.

In just four games, Tilak Varma has been out to spin three times, averaging just 8.75 with a top score of just 20. At his peak, Tilak is a powerful hitter at No. 4 who can hold both the top and lower order in addition to his ability to change gears. In order to revitalise their batting campaign, MI will be eager to see him among the runs once more.

Apr 16, 2026, 5:16 PM

MI is desperate to get out of its bowling predicament

Delhi Capitals have the second-worst bowling average at 35.60, while MI has the worst economy rate (11.3) in the league. MI has been the most expensive team in the middle overs (11.08), giving up more runs per over than the next-worst team in that phase, CSK (9.85), even though they haven't been particularly bad in the powerplay or death overs.

Bumrah's economy rate of 8.20 is still the best among MI's bowlers and the sixth-best overall among bowlers who have bowled at least 10 overs this season, so this in no way suggests that he hasn't been effective. However, the lack of wickets may have had a cascading effect, as pressure seems to spread around the attack without anyone regularly stepping in to break partnerships.

Apr 16, 2026, 4:57 PM

The batting potential of PBKS

With the second-best run rate (10.05) and balls-per-sixes ratio (8.70) of any side, only surpassed by RCB, PBKS's unwavering perseverance in the face of wickets falling is a hallmark of the standards they are setting. They have statistically been attacking pace far more than spin, which is good for them at Wankhede, where spinners usually play a supporting role and pace bowling comes on the bat nicely due to the red soil.

The last thing MI's hitters would want is their opponents teaching them how to bat at Wankhede, therefore they need to step up significantly since they are currently falling behind. The first thing they would want is to break two streaks: PBKS hasn't dropped a game yet, and they have dropped three straight since winning their first game.

Apr 16, 2026, 4:30 PM

Can MI equal the batting power of PBKS?

The Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have followed quite different routes since their last encounter in the second qualifier last year, when they weren't too far apart. MI has fallen to second from bottom due to problems with both their batting and bowling departments, while PBKS, who were the only undefeated side in IPL 2026 prior to Wednesday's match, easily secured second place.

Apr 16, 2026, 4:12 PM

Is Rohit Sharma going to play?

When the Mumbai Indians prepare to play the Punjab Kings, everyone's first concern is: Will Rohit Sharma play?

On 19 off 13 against RCB, Rohit had to retire due to what appeared to be a hamstring problem. On Wednesday night, he was late to the nets for a quick hit in the nets, running, and brief warm-ups. His availability for Thursday has not been confirmed.

If he isn't available, MI would like to start with a well-known opener like Quinton de Kock, but it would mean excluding another foreign player like Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner, or Sherfane Rutherford. Danish Malewar, the Vidarbha opener, would be a simple switch if MI wanted to keep those three. However, de Kock may be substituted if MI wants to change up their bowling assault by substituting Ashwani Kumar for the pricey Boult.

Will Jacks is now travelling to India, thus he is still unavailable.
