Live score for SRH vs PBKS, IPL 2026: Connolly tonne in vain as SRH wins handily to take the top spot

SRH and PBKS compete for first place

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered their third loss in four games when they lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the teams' rematch last month. However, that defeat appeared to have flipped a switch.

After switching up their bowling lineup, SRH won five straight games. The seasoned quick bowlers Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel were replaced by the raw fast bowlers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain. Sakib has nine wickets at 22.55, while Hinge hasn't been as reliable following a brilliant debut. Travis Head is back among the runs, and even Eshan Malinga turned his season around.

Everything was going well for SRH until Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ended their five-game winning streak at home.

They now take on PBKS, who have gone undefeated in seven games but are coming off consecutive losses. Even though they batted first and scored 222, they lost to the Rajasthan Royals. Despite the two losses, PBKS had some successes, but their bowling is a cause for concern. They have taken the second-fewest wickets this season and average over 41.

Among the runs was Marcus Stoinis, who scored 40 in 31 deliveries in a comeback against the Gujarat Titans (GT) and 62* off 22 balls against RR. Suryansh Shedge was summoned back by PBKS to play against GT, and he responded with 57 off 29 balls while also contributing 79 with Stoinis from 47 for 5.

Table-toppers PBKS won't be concerned about two losses just yet. However, they would be cautious about not extending that run with five group games left until the playoffs, in part because another loss will move SRH to the top spot even though PBKS will have a game in hand.

Shashank and Reddy are available

Nitish Kumar Reddy is healthy enough to play on Wednesday against PBKS after missing the KKR match owing to illness. R Smaran will probably be pushed out by Reddy's comeback.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (probable): 1 Travis Head, 2 Abhishek Sharma, 3 Ishan Kishan (wk), 4 Heinrich Klaasen, 5 Nitish Kumar Reddy, 6 Aniket Verma, 7 Salil Arora, 8 Pat Cummins (capt), 9 Harshal Patel, 10 Eshan Malinga, 11 Shivang Kumar, 12 Sakib Hussain

Shashank Singh could take Nehal Wadhera's spot because he hasn't scored many runs. In New Chandigarh, Shashank's mediocre pace dismissed both Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, limiting SRH to 219. However, he has missed many catches and hasn't been among the runs himself. Brad Haddin stated that he should be available, but he is also recuperating from a niggle.

Punjab Kings (probable): 1 Prabhsimran Singh (wk), 2 Priyansh Arya, 3 Cooper Connolly, 4 Shreyas Iyer (capt), 5 Suryansh Shedge, 6 Shashank Singh/Nehal Wadhera, 7 Marcus Stoinis, 8 Marco Jansen, 9 Xavier Bartlett, 10 Arshdeep Singh, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal, 12 Vijaykumar Vyshak

Highlights: Arshdeep, Jansen, and Malinga

The only front-line bowler to have represented SRH in all 10 games is Eshan Malinga. He had three wickets at an average of 41.67 at the beginning of the season. However, Malinga has now collected 12 wickets at 16.75. He has the ball to tail in late and is SRH's top wicket-taker. One of the main forces behind SRH's revival was Malinga. SRH lost because he was costly and wicketless against KKR. Malinga, who averages 16.40 in Hyderabad compared to 21.73 elsewhere, will try to recover.

The absence of Marco Jansen and Arshdeep Singh has damaged PBKS. Arshdeep has been the most costly bowler this season with an economy of 10.38, while Jansen has the second-fewest wickets (six) among all bowlers who have bowled at least 180 balls. They had taken 37 wickets at an average of 25.73 during PBKS's journey to the final previous year. Arshdeep and Jansen have taken 16 wickets at 40.13 so far this time. The two seasoned quicks will need to support PBKS' hitters, who have been racking up enormous totals.

Conditions and pitch

Pitch No. 2 has a 3-2 record when batting first and an average score of 200 in night games during IPL 2024 and 2025. SRH scored 242 and defeated Delhi Capitals by 47 runs in their lone match of the season. While chasing this season, PBKS has won 5 of their 6 games. so that each team may win the toss. On the eve of the game, it rained, and Hyderabad is predicted to have overcast conditions on Wednesday.

Trivia and statistics

Travishek's enjoyment of playing Arshdeep is just half-hearted. Travis Head has fallen three times in 42 balls against Arshdeep and averages just 19.67, while Abhishek Sharma averages 85 and has a strike rate of 197.67 against the left-arm fast.

This season, twenty-three batters have scored at least 250 runs at a strike rate of 150. That list includes four batters from both PBKS and SRH.

Both PBKS openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh have not yet been dismissed by Pat Cummins. Prabhsimran has 25 off 17 deliveries against the SRH captain, while Arya has struck Cummins for 11 runs in four balls.

Haddin and Vettori prepare for Travishek vs Prabh-Arya

The match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) will highlight two of the most potent starting duos. Together, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head of SRH have scored 543 runs in ten innings this season with a strike rate of 208.05. Only Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya of PBKS, who have gone at an incredible 242.5 in eight innings, have surpassed them.

Both opening pairings did not have their typical effect in their teams' previous defeats. Will something akin to this occur tonight?

May 6, 2026, 6:33 PM

Who is at the top of the table?

SRH's batting disintegrated like a deck of cards in their seven-wicket loss to KKR before this match. However, after going undefeated in their first seven games, PBKS has since dropped two straight. PBKS will increase their lead at the top of the table and get closer to a postseason berth if they win tonight. SRH will surpass PBKS and take the lead if they win. What is the outcome of this heavyweight batting match?

May 6, 2026, 6:48 PM

When did SRH last meet PBKS?

Punjab Kings won by six wickets, but that was a long time ago—nearly a month ago. After being sent in, Sunrisers Hyderabad quickly amassed 120 for 0 in eight overs. Despite a middle-order wobble, Abhishek Sharma struck 219 for 6 after smashing 74 off 28. However, Shreyas Iyer and Prabh-Arya's fifties made it easier for PBKS to chase the target.

Reddy returns for SRH, while Shashank and Ferguson return for PBKS

Punjab Kings decided to bowl against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

After winning the toss, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer bowled against Sunrisers Hyderabad without hesitation. The out-of-form Nehal Wadhera is replaced by Shashank Singh, whose bowling altered the outcome of the last game between these two teams. Xavier Bartlett is also replaced by fast bowler Lockie Ferguson. Although he wasn't included in PBKS' bowling first XI, Priyansh Arya is probably going to start as the Impact Player.

"The surface appears lovely. Regarding his choice to bowl, Shreyas remarked, "There hasn't been a single piece of grass since the time I have seen it."

"I can't read pitches; they seem to all be high-scoring here," SRH captain Pat Cummins remarked, not seeming very upset about losing the toss.

SRH may use a seamer or left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey as their Impact Player.

After going undefeated in the first seven games of the competition, PBKS enters the match on the heels of two defeats. SRH is also coming in; before losing to the Kolkata Knight Riders, they had won five straight games. The last time SRH and PBKS faced off was about a month ago at New Chandigarh, where PBKS chased down a challenging 220 target in 18.5 overs thanks to fifties from Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, and Shreyas Iyer.

PBKS will maintain their dominance at the top of the table and move closer to a postseason berth if they win this game. For the first time this season, SRH will top the points table if they defeat PBKS.

Punjab Kings bowling first XI: 1 Prabhsimran Singh (wk), 2 Cooper Connolly, 3 Shreyas Iyer (capt), 4 Shashank Singh, 5 Suryansh Shedge, 6 Marcus Stoinis, 7 Marco Jansen, 8 Lockie Ferguson, 9 Vijaykumar Vyshak, 10 Arshdeep Singh, 11 Yuzvendra Chahal

Impact bench: Priyansh Arya, Harpreet Brar, Xavier Bartlett, Musheer Khan, Vishnu Vinod

Sunrisers Hyderabad batting first XI: 1 Abhishek Sharma, 2 Travis Head, 3 Ishan Kishan (wk), 4 Heinrich Klaasen, 5 Salil Arora, 6 R Smaran, 7 Nitish Kumar Reddy, 8 Pat Cummins(capt), 9 Shivang Kumar, 10 Eshan Malinga, 11 Sakib Hussain

Impact bench: Aniket Verma, Praful Hinge, Liam Livingstone, Harshal Patel, Harsh Dubey

May 6, 2026, 7:24 PM

How do the teams align?

Both PBKS and SRH have altered their starting lineups. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who missed the last game, has returned to SRH, as was expected. However, Aniket Verma has been replaced by him rather than R Smaran. In the meantime, PBKS has replaced Bartlett, who has been inconsistent, with Lockie Ferguson. Nehal Wadhera is replaced by Shashank Singh. Suryansh Shedge has managed to hold onto his position.

May 6, 2026, 7:36 PM

Time for Travis Head!

The Uppal Stadium is a sea of orange. With a combined strike total of 210, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head are the best opening duo this season. With a powerplay strike rate of 11.75, SRH easily leads the IPL 2026. Abhishek has already left. After a first-ball sighter, he pursues Arshdeep Singh over extra cover on the second ball, hitting a massive six.

Arshdeep hasn't moved much thus far. The PBKS bowlers will need to exercise extreme caution because there hasn't been much in Hyderabad. After the first over, SRH is 11 for 0.

May 6, 2026, 7:48 PM

Travishek

After giving Abhishek Sharma the first ball of the second over, Travis Head observes the devastation. Given that Ferguson is present, it is unexpected that PBKS has asked Marco Jansen to share the new ball. Abhishek is also attacking him. A bouncer is pushed to the fine leg fence after a full ball outside off is smashed over long on. After that, Jansen bowls a knuckle ball that is tonked straight down and ends the second over with a boundary all the way to deep square leg on the turf.

The third over is then bowled by Arshdeep. Shreyas wants him to stop the runs. Two dot balls are bowled by him. It appears to be a victory. He's just warming up, according to Head. After that, Arshdeep bowls a short ball. Head positions himself and pulls a hard, flat six—a rocket. Be mindful of the throng! Arshdeep gets pushed over deep square leg once more as he goes short. His dirty knee-high full toss down leg at the end of the over is dismissed with contempt.

May 6, 2026, 7:54 PM

For W, dial Ferguson!

Before today, Lockie Ferguson has only participated in one game this season. In that game, he scored 57 and appeared rusty. Now that he's returned, he's bowling some steam. Abhishek hooks him for six after he starts with a dot ball. However, he receives his retribution the very next ball as Abhishek spoons him. He then ends his opening over with a thunderbolt at 147.5 kph after bowling three crisp dot balls to Ishan Kishan.

The over is just six and a wicket. That's a victory now!

One more strong SRH powerplay

Before this match, SRH's IPL powerplay run rate was 11.75. Against PBKS, they go at that rate or more than 13! The SRH batting mindset does not include the change gears. From the beginning, it's time to go. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma reached the fifty mark in just 3.2 overs. Head took over and took on the short ball after Abhishek collapsed. As SRH scored 79 for 1 in the powerplay, he first eliminated Jansen and then Ferguson.

May 6, 2026, 8:18 PM

PBKS butter fingers

Following the powerplay, Yuzvendra Chahal was added to the attack, and once again, the top wicket-taker in the IPL delivers! Outside, a googly to Head spun away from him. He tries to go up and over, but he only makes a small cut, and Jansen finishes the job from a distance.

The missed catches are coming back to haunt PBKS, who should have taken two more wickets. Kishan misplaces his draw to Connolly at deep backwards square after Ferguson bowls a corker of a bouncer to him. There, he places an absolute sitter. Chahal creates a chance in the very next over when Klaasen sweeps and gives Shashank a top edge. Straight in and out! Another is dropped by Shashank. "A bit of a virus going around at the moment," Ponting remarks regarding the PBKS outbreak.

May 6, 2026, 8:31 PM

Oh no, PBKS!

Kishan has been dropped once more, this time by Ferguson at a deep backwards square leg off Yuzvendra Chahal. It's like a plague. Three catches were dropped and three catching opportunities were made. But we're not finished yet. This evening, Kishan is having a wonderful time. Chahal has given Kishan another opportunity by using a tossed-up ball as a bait. He charges down the track, misses, should have been stumped, and gets tricked while in flight. However, Prabhsimran makes a mistake and overlooks a regulation stumping this time. Chahal has his head in his hand and is sitting on his haunches.

So far this season, PBKS has lost 16 receptions, which is tied for the most. At 71.43%, they have the lowest catching efficiency.

Ricky Ponting: It resembles a virus

It resembles a virus. This season, we've made a lot of catches. The boys have put in a lot of effort, and poor old Shashank was one of them. Simply put, it appears as though the ball follows him everywhere. He's sitting beneath a high ball. [On Shashank] Due to a strained left hamstring, he missed a few games. He has been recovering from that for around a week and a half. In order to be physically fit to play the game, he has completed all of his work during the past week. And over the past five or six days, we have been giving him a lot of catching.

That is undeniable. However, one goes down tonight once more, and hopefully it won't be too expensive. He can't afford to be dropping catches like that, even though he is an extremely talented T20 player. During the time out, I told the lads that those opportunities would come. And if we can hold onto them, we'll be able to put some pressure on this batting order and, ideally, move into the lower order as soon as possible. [Is the ring of lights the cause?]

If someone puts down a catch, I won't be justifying it. We practiced here yesterday night, after all. That's the allure of visiting these locations. You often have one or two sessions to experience a train under the lights and gain a sense of the venue. This year, we've had a few.

He lost a Chahal in Mumbai that went directly into the light. However, Shashank appeared to have that one covered from start to finish. Therefore, I won't start making excuses. You know, you have to accept a catch like that."

This IPL, Yuzvendra Chahal has created 16 catching opportunities, of which 8 have been dropped (50% catching efficiency). No bowler has had a higher proportion of catches dropped among the 61 bowlers who have created four or more chances this season.

May 6, 2026, 8:51 PM

Kishan is fifty years old!

This evening, Kishan led a charmed life. He missed one stumping and dropped two catches, but he persevered and turned those opportunities into a half-century. Although Kishan's innings hasn't been the most fluid, he has struck an important fifty off 28 balls. In order to get there, he hits Vijaykumar Vyshak for three consecutive sixes: over wide long-on, straight down, and over fine leg. Klaasen gives him a hug.

But shortly after, Kishan collapses with Shedge, hanging onto a catch at deep square leg for once. He hits 55 off of 32. However, Klaasen is still going strong.

This evening, Kishan's control percentage was 65.63.

May 6, 2026, 8:59 PM

Klaasen has fifty more

This season, Heinrich Klaasen has been playing at his best; he has scored in double figures in every game. Shashank dropped him off at nine, so he shouldn't have this evening. He has also forced PBKS to pay. With two fours and three sixes in his innings, he reaches his fifty off just 32 balls. In the eighteenth over, SRH surpassed 200. How many more are they able to obtain?

In the meantime, Jansen was dismissed for 61 off his four overs.

SRH ends at 235 for four

Punjab Kings vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad 235 for 4 (Klaasen 69, Kishan 55, Head 38, Chahal 1-32)

Klaasen helps SRH reach 235 for 4 in their 20 overs before falling for 69. Arshdeep's yorkers helped PBKS mount a respectable recovery in the final overs, but they still gave up 53 in the final four. Klaasen has hit four sixes and three fours in this excellent innings. On the other hand, Nitish Kumar Reddy has been nothing short of spectacular. He finished undefeated on 29 off 13 with two fours and two sixes, making some of the cleanest shots on display this evening. Can PBKS pursue this?

In seven balls, PrabhArya was gone

Throughout the entire fight, Travishek had prevailed over PrabhArya. Within seven balls, the PBKS openers were dismissed. Prabhsimran falls for 3 off 4, while Arya falls for 1 off 3. Whoa! It's a body blow.

With some astute leadership, Cummins grabs first blood. On the final ball of the first over, he telegraphed a fuller ball by pushing mid-on back. However, he bowled a short ball that was angled over Arya, who top-edged a pull, and Malinga, rushing in from deep backwards square, made a nice, low catch. Prabhsimran skews an away-going length ball straight up, and Nitish Reddy, SRH's new-ball sensation, hits the opening ball. From mid-off, Cummins scoots to his left, trips, and then reverse-cups, but he still hangs on to a great catch.

Shreyas covers the opening ball and smacks Reddy, but PBKS will need a lot from him.

For Prabharya, a new low

In their 26 IPL games together, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh's four runs today are the fewest they have scored. The previous low was 17 runs against GT in the most recent match and 17 against RR in 2025.

May 6, 2026, 9:57 PM

SRH 57 for 3 in the powerplay

In his first over, Eshan Malinga also scores, and SRH grabs a big wicket of Shreyas Iyer, who mistimes the hard length ball all the way up to mid-off, where Cummins takes another.

Connolly and Stoinis, the two Australians, have somewhat saved the powerplay. Sakib Hussain, who has been inconsistent, faces Stoinis. In his opening over, the fast bowler goes for 19. PBKS then rushes to 57 in the powerplay as Connolly hits Malinga for consecutive fours, but they have also lost three wickets.

This stand will be crucial to PBKS' chances.

May 6, 2026, 10:18 PM

In a hole, PBKS!

Following the powerplay, PBKS's progress has been sluggish, and they have also lost Stoinis. He covers the second ball and drills Shivang Kumar, but he is quickly out. Stoinis forms up to cut, gets a thick outside edge, and Kishan makes the catch on the second try after Shivang bowls a beautiful wrong'un outside off. Cooper Connolly and Suryansh Shedge return to complete the repairs.

Now that the necessary rate has reached 14.50, SRH are clear favourites.

Matches are won by catches

SRH has held onto everything that has come their way, while PBKS dropped three easy catches in their innings. As a result, SRH is rapidly rising to the top of the standings. Cooper Connolly and Suryansh Shedge made every effort to save the PBKS chase, and they were partially successful. Connolly criticises Dubey for hitting consecutive sixes, as Shedge hits six, four, and six off Shivang Kumar once again. However, the menacing stance is broken by the cunning old Cummins.

After bowling two dot balls, he tricks Shedge with a slower short ball that the batsman mistimes to deep midwicket. Abhishek sprints ahead and makes a solid low catch. After miscuing his pull to deep square leg, where Reddy hangs on, Shashank Singh falls shortly after hitting his opening four through mid-off. The required rate for PBKS is almost at 17.

May 6, 2026, 10:40 PM

Connolly reaches fifty

With none of the other hitters standing up, Cooper Connolly's third fifty of the year has come too late for PBKS. Connolly has also had two lives, but now it's all about increasing the net run rate with the necessary rate exceeding 23! He raises a fifty off 34 balls. Shivang Kumar dropped him near the deep midwicket area after Sakib Hussain dropped him running back on his followthrough. With SRH needing 78 off the final three overs, he is accompanied by Marco Jansen.

Connolly criticises the century

For PBKS, it has been a one-man show, but it won't be sufficient. In his first IPL season, Connolly has looked the part. Not only is this his first IPL century, but it's also his first tonne in any format. uses a falling sweep over a deep backwards square leg to get there on the last over. Connolly may still be quite proud of his effort even though it won't result in a victory. If it comes down to it, he ensures that PBKS' NRR does not suffer by reaching his tonne off 57 balls. Connolly ends undefeated at 107 off 59 balls, including eight sixes and seven fours. However, SRH triumphed handily.

In professional cricket, this is Cooper Connolly's first century in any format.

May 6, 2026, 11:12 PM

SRH takes the lead

Punjab Kings 202 for 7 (Connolly 107*, Cummins 2-34, Shivang 2-45) were defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad 235 for 4 (Klaasen 69, Kishan 55, Head 38, Chahal 1-32) by 33 runs.

"Catches win matches" is arguably one of the oldest and most overused clichés in cricket. On Wednesday, however, it couldn't have been more true. Sunrisers Hyderabad [SRH] dropped two catches but held onto the majority of the crucial ones, while Punjab Kings missed a stumping and dropped three. The outcome in the end? Despite Cooper Connolly's first century, SRH went on to overcome PBKS by 43 runs and move up to the top of the points table.

SRH got off to a great start in the powerplay once more thanks to Travis Head (38 off 19) and Abhishek Sharma (35 off 13). SRH concluded on 235 for 6 thanks to rapid fifties from Heinrich Klaasen (69 off 43) and Ishan Kishan (55 off 32), as well as the finishing touches from fit-again Nitish Kumar Reddy (29* off 13).

In the IPL, SRH had never lost when defending a target of 220 or more, and that record held true. Connolly, who had two lives, scored his first century in any format, finishing undefeated on 109 off 57 balls, but the rest of the team did little to help PBKS lose for the third time in a row. With the victory, SRH now leads the standings with 15 points, while PBKS is still at 13.
