Arshdeep Singh and Washington Sundar are in the spotlight

Washington Sundar has been given a challenging task in the GT lineup, and he hasn't performed particularly well in it thus far. Sindhu makes his IPL debut with a GT bowl

In the first over, Siraj scores thrice

Mohammed Siraj's hard lengths are excellent. He causes Priyansh Arya to mishandle a pull first ball, but the ball ends up in no man's land behind square on the leg side, just out of reach of Jos Buttler, who is diving and chasing hard. I adore this pitch since it gives me the chance to talk about one of my favourite issues.

Many fans have been misinformed over the past few years that red-soil pitches are always faster and more bouncy than black-soil pitches. This is untrue. Many Indian dark soils have a tendency to play a little slowly since they are thick in silt.

If my memory serves me correctly, dark soils with a high clay content are some of the fastest pitches in Australia. I'm not an expert, but what I'm trying to say is that it's far more complex than black soil = slow and red soil = bouncy.

Vyshak wins the big prize

Vyshak's short ball is excellent. A special thanks to Sai Sudharsan. When he can get his head on the ball's offside and turn to draw behind square on the leg side, he is at his best.
