Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal give RR a commanding victory
Rajasthan Royals 150 for 3 in 11 overs (Jaiswal 77*, Sooryavanshi 39, Ghazanfar 2-21) defeated the Mumbai Indians by 27 runs at 123 for 9 (Rutherford 25, Dhir 25, Burger 2-21, Bishnoi 2-25).The Rajasthan Royals vs. Mumbai Indians match in Guwahati took over two and a half hours to start, and the rain nearly caused a washout twice in two days. Around 9 p.m., the weather eased up, but MI was unaware that another storm was on its way. Yashavi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi are a storm and MI was astounded.

Together, they scored 80 runs in 4.6 overs, with Jaiswal smashing an undefeated 77 off 32 balls and Sooryavanshi hammering 39 in 14. In the rain-shortened 11 overs-a-side match, which started at 10.10 p.m. local time, RR amassed 150 for 3 thanks to the opening partnership.
Sandeep Sharma, Nandre Burger, and Ravid Bishnoi each took two wickets as MI was reduced to 123 for 9 in 11 overs after losing three wickets during the shortened 3.2 over powerplay. With their third straight victory, RR took the lead in the standings, while MI suffered their second straight defeat.

What is the role of Boss Baby? He thrashes one of the best bowlers in the game of cricket for a massive six over mid-on on the first ball. Yes, it was delivered at a mere 131 kph, and it was a slot ball on middle and leg, but this is Bumrah. I don't care, says Sooryavanshi. He hammers him a mile with indifference while remaining motionless. All Bumrah can do is grin.

Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, won the toss and fielded against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati without hesitation after a delay of over three hours due to continuous rain.
The powerplay was cut to 3.2 overs for each team, and the game was shortened to 11 overs each side. After more than four hours of nonstop rain in Guwahati, the toss took place at 9.55 p.m. local time, and play began at 10.10 p.m.The return of Hardik, who was unwell and missed the game against the Delhi Capitals, was the most significant news from the MI camp. It is anticipated that the ball will move around early while the surface is covered. As a result, Mitchell Santner and Corbin Bosch were left out and Trent Boult returned to the starting lineup. Mayank Markande, a legspinner, was also left out.
MI chose to start with three foreign players, including AM Ghazanfar. The Impact Player is anticipated to be Sherfane Rutherford.
Riyan Parag, the captain of RR, wanted to bowl as well, but he wasn't prepared for the dampness to have such a significant impact. RR is sticking with the same side. If the surface is not favourable for spin, they could use fast bowler Brijesh Sharma instead of Ravi Bishnoi as an impact player.
RR is aiming for a hat-trick of victories and a chance to climb to the top of the standings. They defeated Gujarat Titans in a tough match in Ahmedabad after easily defeating Chennai Super Kings in their tournament debut.
MI, on the other hand, lost to DC by six wickets after thumping Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets to start the competition.
Rajasthan Royals batting-first XI: 1 Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 2 Yashasvi Jaiswal, 3 Dhruv Jurel (wk), 4 Riyan Parag (capt), 5 Shimron Hetmyer, 6 Donovan Ferreira, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 Jofra Archer, 9 Nandre Burger, 10 Tushar Deshpande, 11 Sandeep Sharma

Rutherford is muted
Sherfane Rutherford gave MI the spark they needed. He lifts off once the first ball is dropped. Rutherford ends Bishnoi's second over with consecutive fours, one over cover and one over backward point, after Naman Dhir hits Sandeep for a four and a six. Deshpande is then lined up by Rutherford. He gives the game a boost by dismissing Deshpande for a four and two sixes as the required rate rises to 19 per over. However, Sandeep's amazing catch at short third ends his innings. Sandeep lunges forward to collect a catch millimetres off the ground as Rutherford slashes at the slower, hard-length ball outside off and gains a thick outside edge. Rutherford departs, taking MI's hopes with him.Apr 8, 2026, 12:03 AM
In a single over, Bishnoi has two
Bishnoi begins with two wickets in one over, and there's a reason he wears the purple cap. Hardik covers the first ball and smokes Bishnoi before hitting him flat, hard, and straight to long-on. The next delivery is a short ball that Tilak Varma pulls through midwicket but falls. Tilak's decision to line up for a slog sweep was incorrect. However, Hetmyer makes a straightforward catch at deep midwicket as he fails to get it anywhere in the middle. After five overs, MI falls to 46 for 5. With Impact Player Sherfane Rutherford toe-ending the legspinner straight up towards Jaiswal at long off, Bishnoi ought to have taken a third wicket. He dashes in, arrives on time, but misses an obvious opportunity.

Sandeep triumphs over Rohit once more
Prior to this match, Sandeep had removed Rohit Sharma five times in 12 IPL innings. As MI continues to falter, Rohit is pinned bang in front of the wickets, making it six in thirteen. Sandeep starts with two dot balls while the wicketkeeper is up to the stumps. Then, under duress, Rohit searches for a daring shot. Eyeing a good paddle, he goes straight across. Sandeep, however, maintains composure and hits a yorker on middle. Rohit misses and is smacked in the middle, which is disastrous! The ball tracker has that slamming into middle of the middle, and Rohit reviews with more hope than anything else. Sandeep's top over, for three runs! With the target appearing far away, MI ends the powerplay on 30 for 3.

Sky falls!
Nandre Burger is so excited that he tells Suryakumar Yadav. He paddles the flattest of sixes down to the fine leg rail after arriving at No. 3. However, Burger retaliates almost instantly. Suryakumar is tricked by the shift in pace, as he swipes the length of the middle and leg directly to Archer at deep backward square leg.3 6 1w 0 W 2

In the first over, Archer strikes
Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma, the two MI openers, are outclassed. Although the endeavour is difficult, MI has the batting to complete it. The new ball belongs to Jofra Archer. Archer throws a length ball on Rickelton's pads and is casually taken away over deep midwicket after just four runs off the opening four balls. However, Archer immediately exacts his retribution. The crucial element was the line. He manages to get the tougher distances barely off stump. Rickelton tries to bosh that away across the line once more, but he only gets a large top-edge. Jurel makes a solid catch as the ball shoots straight up.1 1 1 1 6 W

Jaiswal scores 77 off of 32
Despite being hammered right down the ground by Jaiswal, Bumrah bowls the tenth over and, for the most part, a solid over. But that was a slot ball. Despite the six, he ends with 0 for 32 after giving up just ten runs in his third over. Shimron Hetmyer only manages six out of seven as he battles to find his timing. When Thakur bowls the last over, Jaiswal picks him for three fours: a low full ball outside off over covers, an agricultural scoop over the wicketkeeper, and one past short third. After 11 overs, RR conclude with 150 for 3, while Jaiswal remains undefeated at 77 off 32.
Apr 7, 2026, 11:07 PM
With two strikes, Ghazanfar
AM Ghazanfar's return to the team was somewhat unexpected, but he has returned the favour by taking two crucial wickets, Dhruv Jurel and Riyan Parag. He is caught on the crease after delivering a skiddy middle and leg to Jurel. Tilak makes another deft grab after Parag knocks 20 off 10 but is caught at long-on. Ghazanfar has scored 20 runs in his two overs, which is fantastic.Apr 7, 2026, 10:59 PM
A fifty off 23 balls for YBJ!
Prior to the match, Kevin Pietersen had asked Jaiswal for a century. That would be challenging when the game was cut down to 11 overs per side, but Jaiswal made sure there was plenty of entertainment. Jaiswal's record versus MI has been erratic. He had two hundreds and five scores of less than 15 in eight games against MI before to this one. Jaiswal used his boom version on Tuesday, pasting the MI bowlers throughout the Guwahati ground. With all the attention on Sooryavanshi, he quickly got up and left.He had already hit four fours and three sixes in his first nine balls, and he continued even after RR lost Sooryavanshi and Jurel. With a thunderous smash through point against Hardik, Jaiswal reached his fift in just 23 balls.

Thakur's golden arm strikes once again
Last season, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lit up the IPL by smashing Shardul Thakur, who was playing for LSR at the time, for a huge six that covered the first ball he played in an inside-out over. Sooryavanshi went for Thakur once more, hitting him over covers with the first ball for a massive six in what was essentially an action repetition of that stroke. He then hits a length ball directly over the bowler's head after smacking another four over covers. But when it comes to some top field placement, Thakur has the last word. It was there to be struck. A fuller-length ball outside off right in Sooryanvanshi's wheel house. A memorable powerplay
Did MI make a mistake by denying Trent Boult the new ball? With the ball already wet, he is bowling the third over. And Jaiswal has laid into him without making a move. Boult begins with a longer ball, but it is on the pad. Jaiswal enters the line and casually flicks Boult. Boult is pulled over midwicket by Jaiswal when he goes short on the subsequent delivery. Then, as RR collects 22 off that Boult over, Sooryavanshi goes on strike and whips Boult over deep backward square leg. RR struck six sixes and four fours in three overs!4 6 4 0 4 4 6 1 1 6 0 0 6 6 1 6 1w 1 1 0 1

A single, two dot balls, two sixes—Boom vs. Boss, baby!
All the talk prior to the game was on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's performance against Jasprit Bumrah. Will you be overwhelmed? Will he target Bumrah in the same manner as he targets the other bowlers? Yashavi Jaiswal is eager to utilise it to its fullest. The new ball is taken by Deepak Chahar. Is there going to be any swing? We're playing a game!
As long as there are no more disruptions, the groundskeepers have guaranteed that we will have a game despite all the rain. In almost sixteen minutes, at 9.55 p.m., the toss will take place. There are now only 11 overs each side throughout the match. The game will start at 10.10 p.m. with a 3.2-over powerplay. Two bowlers can each bowl no more than two overs, and one bowler can bowl three overs. How significant are Bumrah's overs now? There won't be any strategic timeouts, and there will be a ten-minute pause in between innings.Apr 7, 2026, 9:35 PM
Players warm up and remove their covers
Guwahati is showing some extremely encouraging signals. The players from both teams are making their way to the center for the warm-ups now that the rain has fully ceased. As Rohit Sharma leaves for a throwdown session, there are huge cheers for him. Jasprit Bumrah is out, along with Riyan Parag and Sooryavanshi. The pitch is being examined for the first time while the grounds crew removes the covers. Kumar Sangakkara examines it closely. How significant is the toss now?Apr 7, 2026, 9:19 PM
The rain stops!
It appears that Guwahati's rain has stopped. The coverings appear to be in the process of being pulled out, since there is some ground staff activity close by. To the joy of the fans, the supper-soppers are also out in full force. We may be in for a brief game even though the outfield has taken a beating.
Apr 7, 2026, 9:09 PM
What's the most recent?
As it continues to rain in Guwahati, Anil Kumble remarks on television, "It's looking really bleak now." The drizzle is continuous but not intense. In an effort to maintain their optimism, the supporters have endured the rain and are still hoping for a start. The fact that the ground isn't completely covered indicates that the rain isn't very intense. While several players are heading to the stadium to see how things are going, Ravindra Jadeja is in the RR changerom with a thoughtful expression on his face.

In Guwahati, there is more waiting
Even though the Super Soppers are still performing their duties, we have been losing overs in Guwahati since 8.40 p.m. due to the persistent drizzle. A five-over match can begin no later than 10.50 p.m. In all likelihood, the rain must stop by 9:50 p.m. so that the outfield can dry.Apr 7, 2026, 8:33 PM
Is there any hope?
The drizzle's intensity has slightly decreased. With his canopy down, the fourth umpire leaves and speaks with the curator. Both the ground crew and the Super Soppers are working diligently on the ground. However, there are still a lot of puddles in the outfield and a lot of water on the covers. While conversing with Deshpande, Riyan Parag casts a troubled glance up toward the sky.Apr 7, 2026, 8:22 PM
Hardik is in shape
Due to illness, Hardik Pandya was unable to play in MI's most recent match against the Delhi Capitals. He is healthy and will return for the game versus RR this evening, weather allowed. In the end, you discover that Hardik is still the most important component for his team, whether it is MI or India, even if you occasionally rearrange your cards. He was sidelined against DC, therefore MI had to replace him with Corbin Bosch and Deepak Chahar. Since then, he has resumed bowling in the Guwahati nets, where he is anticipated to take Chahar's place. If that's the case, Bosch will probably be replaced by Trent Boult.
Apr 7, 2026, 7:49 PM
Rain, rain, go away
It appears that Guwahati is seeing more rain. The intensity seems to be higher than it was a short while ago based on the on-air graphics. The square is still covered. The entire set of covers has not yet been taken off, but the Super Soppers are still circling the earth.
Apr 7, 2026, 7:37 PM
Which matchups are there?
We wait since there is still a little drizzle in the air, even though the match should have begun by now. Let's take a look at a few of tonight's matchups in the interim.- Sandeep Sharma vs. Rohit Sharma will be an intriguing match. In 12 IPL innings, Sandeep has removed Rohit five times. Most significantly, Rohit only has an 85 strike rate versus Sandeep. In eight Twenty20 innings, Rohit has also lost three times to Jofra Archer.
- In order for MI to negotiate Archer's danger, Tilak Verma might be essential. In their most recent encounter, the T20 World Cup semi-final in Mumbai, he decisively defeated Archer by hitting him for three straight sixes. Tilak has only been out once in all Twenty20 matches while scoring 54 runs off 21 balls against Archer at a strike rate of 257.
- Recently, Jaiswal and Suryavanshi have performed admirably in the powerplay. However, Boult and Deepak Chahar will try to thwart them. In IPL 2025, Chahar dismissed Sooryavanshi, while Boult dismissed Jaiswal thrice.
- Watch out for Shimron Hetmyer's matchup with Jasprit Bumrah. In ten Twenty20 innings, Hetmyer has lost against Bumrah six times.
- Bumrah has bowled 49.2% of his overs in the powerplay for India since IPL 2024, compared to 36.4% for MI. Compared to India (49, 26, and 25), MI has actually utilised him almost equally in all three phases (36% in powerplay, 35% in middle overs, and 29% in the last overs). In order to help MI defend a low score against DC, he bowled two powerplay overs. He could be utilised early once more to counter Sooryavanshi's danger.
- This will be MI's first-ever game at Guwahati's Barsapara Stadium, their 31st official stadium.

More positive news
It appears that the rain has stopped. "Looking better, lots of groundspeople doing the mopping up work," Faf du Plessis said during a broadcast. A few coverings are also starting to come off the groundstaff. However, there are numerous puddles around, which is a serious issue. With the canopy down, the fourth umpire stoops to feel the outfield. The covers from the side pitches are being taken off by the Super Soppers. The good news is that the prediction is improving going forward, but the Guwahati drainage will be tested tonight.Apr 7, 2026, 7:09 PM
There is some hope
Riyan Parag walks around the property and speaks with the groundskeeper. That implies that it may not be raining as much right now. While other RR players are comfortably seated inside the changeroom, Deepak Chahar is beaming in the dugout. We hold off.Apr 7, 2026, 6:51 PM
Toss postponed
The toss has been postponed, and there is still a drizzle in the Guwahati area. We're hoping that this drizzle will stop and we can get some action because it's not pouring as much as it was a short while ago. In Guwahati, we must wait and see for the time being. The rain has increased while I'm writing this. People, this can take some time. But according to the prediction, the weather should shortly clear. Fingers crossed, then.Apr 7, 2026, 6:46 PM
KP desires a tonne of Jaiswal
In addition to Bumrah vs. Sooryavanshi, Kevin Pietersen is keeping a close eye on Yashasvi Jaiswal and hopes the young player can score a century. Jaiswal's IPL 2026 campaign is off to a strong start. He scored 55 against Gujarat Titans after scoring an undefeated 38 against CSK. With a strike rate of 177.24 and 296 runs at 42.28 in eight innings, Jaiswal has a strong record against the Mumbai Indians. He has struck two of his four IPL hundreds against MI, including one in Jaipur during the previous season.Apr 7, 2026, 6:14 PM
And it's raining again!
Ignore all of that since Guwahati is experiencing heavy rain once more. Folks, we may be in for a lengthy wait! The teams have reportedly arrived at the stadium, but the rain could cause the toss to be delayed.Apr 7, 2026, 6:11 PM
How are things in Guwahati?
A damp outfield could postpone the start of the Rajasthan Royals vs. Mumbai Indians match, delaying the much anticipated Boom vs. Boss Baby match. Now that the rain has ceased, the ground crew is working hard even though the majority of the ground is still covered. To help with drainage, the ground crew is drilling holes on the outfield beyond the boundary. To assist with the mopping up, many sponges are being brought out. Additionally, two Super Soppers are working on uncovered areas of the outfield. However, the throw is now less than an hour away, and there is a lot of water to drain from the covers.
Run-ups, fine leg/deep third, long on/off, square, and one square boundary are yet covered. In essence, the ground is only exposed on one side.

Who is wearing the purple and orange caps?
Here are some of this season's top performers while we wait for more information from Guwahati.
With 160 runs in two innings, DC's young player Sameer Rizvi is leading the Orange Cap race. He has a strike rate of 163.26 and an average of 160.
The Purple Cap is held by Ravi Bishnoi, who we expect to see playing today if the weather permits. In two games, he has taken five wickets at an economy rate of 8.14 and an average of 11.40.
Apr 7, 2026, 5:23 PM
But it's raining again!
The cover they removed is being put back on as it starts to rain again. We must now wait for it to end.Apr 7, 2026, 5:13 PM
The covers are falling off!
For the time being, they are starting to remove the side covers. The planned toss is still about an hour and forty-five minutes away, so there is still time to fix the large puddles that the rain has left on the square perimeter. The signals aren't that awful because two minutes later, we can see that the puddles are already vanishing.Apr 7, 2026, 5:03 PM
An update on the rain from Guwahati
The intensity of the rain has decreased, but it hasn't completely stopped. There is still time to finish the playing area because the throw is in two hours. The ground crew is starting to emerge. In the meantime, some individuals have already begun to fill the stands.Apr 7, 2026, 4:35 PM
Guwahati's torrential rain
In Guwahati, a lot of covers are being worn because it's pouring. They are currently scurrying to cover further areas of the ground after previously covering the square and run-ups. The previous five minutes have seen an abrupt increase in wind and rain. Clear skies were anticipated by 6 p.m., with rain predicted for the afternoon. For now, we'll just have to wait and observe.Unlike last night at Eden Gardens, they haven't covered the entire area. The rest of the outfield is still being battered, but the square, run-ups, cover, and midwicket areas are all covered. As water flows off the covers and onto the outfield, large puddles can be seen forming. Let's hope Guwahati has adequate drainage.

Bumrah vs. Sooryavanshi
With a point to prove, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi of RR and Yashasvi Jaiswal, his opening partner, return to take on MI. Their daring opening stands have been the stuff of the future, and now they must contend with Jasprit Bumrah, the dominant force in Indian cricket today. In professional cricket, Sooryavanshi has never faced Bumrah. There's a danger we won't remember the match's immediate context if he stays long enough for the ball to be tossed Bumrah's way: that MI are trying to tighten up their bowling after Delhi Capitals rocked them, or that a victory will propel RR to the top of the league.
Who will prevail when the quality of the present collides with the promise of the future? The larger contest's outcome may also depend on the response to that question.
