Arya's evening out

Priyansh Arya took 19 balls to reach his second half-century of the year.

His alertness is the most notable feature of his game. It's simple to let your ego control you when you hit the ball as hard as he does. Here, Arya shuffles to paddle fine for four against M Siddharth while boundary riders patrol various arcs on the leg side.

His longest vigil at the crease so far this season is 22 balls.

He nips back in to defeat Connolly's flick with the next ball. The finger remains down despite a strong appeal. After deciding against the review, LSG discovered that a delivery had crashed into the stumps—three reds—according to the replays.

The reprieve doesn't stop there, either. He chips one straight back off the last ball of the second over, but Mohsin's follow-through misses a simple return catch.

Mohsin's three powerplay overs without a wicket have been crushed for forty.

After suffering a blow to his left elbow during the last game against RCB, Rishabh Pant was fully recovered and available. And he was right when the Lucknow Super Giants decided to bowl in an attempt to stop a two-match losing streak in New Chandigarh.

Samad is no longer a child

The global director of LSG, Tom Moody, was straightforward in his criticism of Abdul Samad. LSG is unlikely to alter their combo now that Pant Fit is available. However, Abdul Samad has had trouble with rhythm and form, therefore LSG might consider bringing in MP batsman Akshat Raghuwanshi.

Watch out, Marsh and Markram

Arshdeep Singh recovered admirably to dismiss Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav off consecutive deliveries against MI after being wicketless in his first three games and surrendering at 9.9. His rejection of Sherfane Rutherford to deny MI a last kick, which ultimately proved to be pivotal, was the clearest example of his return to his dominant best after he struggled with his yorker execution at the beginning of the competition. This improvement coincides with the fact that he will face two hitters, Aiden Markram and Mitch Marsh, whom he has dismissed a total of ten times in 25 Twenty20 matches.

LSG requires a batting lift

After a strong start, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have lost steam and are now on a two-match losing streak that they will need to stop. But when they play the top-ranked Punjab Kings, who haven't lost a game yet, the difficulty of that task couldn't be greater.

The best indicator of LSG's decline is their batting returns. 54 of Mukul Choudhary's 127 runs, which top their run records, came in a game-winning performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders. This highlights their batting difficulties: PBKS has the second-best run rate (10.9) in the tournament, while LSG has the slowest (8.1).

The fact that Rishabh Pant is fully fit after recuperating from a knock to his left elbow in the previous game would be comforting throughout these batting difficulties. Pant's failure to keep wickets during LSG's bowling innings in Bengaluru sparked concerns.

With the second-best run rate in the powerplay (11.5), PBKS has little to be concerned about when it comes to batting. They owe this to the riotous form of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. Shreyas Iyer, meanwhile, is at 197 through the middle overs (7-16) and has already hit three half-centuries.

They have won two games this season in chases of 200 or more, and in the most recent match against the Mumbai Indians, they made 196 looks. In each of those games, Shreyas has capitalised on the foundation laid by the openers; in fact, his 447 runs are the most in successful chases since IPL 2025.

Early gains are critical for LSG because the PBKS middle order hasn't been well tested. The fact that Mohammed Shami and Prince Yadav's new-ball attack has been one of the most successful in the powerplay is encouraging for them.

This is another match where LSG's bowling might have to do the heavy lifting, but in order to improve their poor start, their hitters must perform well as soon as possible.
