For the Delhi Capitals, Rizvi makes it two in two

DC makes it two-for-two

DC makes it two-for-two. They finished the game with six wickets and 11 balls remaining thanks to Rizvi's outstanding batting performance and their bowlers' accuracy for the second time in two games.

They had a slow start to the chase, but Rizvi won the match after Nissanka launched a counterattack. Although it was a difficult pitch to bat on, Rizvi's hit turned it into a featherbed.

DC make it two in two

Apr 4, 2026, 6:52 PM

For Rizvi, no hundred

After 51 balls, Rizvi is dismissed for 90. He attempted to launch it over long-off with a full delivery from Bosch. However, Tilak made a simple catch at long off when the bat turned in his fingers. The DC dugout offers Rizvi a standing ovation as he makes his way back.

Miller is joined by Tristan Stubbs, who needs 12 runs from 20 balls.

Apr 4, 2026, 6:48 PM

Rizvi is getting close to 100

With two fours and a six, Rizvi just destroyed Shardul Thakur. A short-of-good-length ball around off produced the six. After retreating, Rizvi sliced it over wide long-off.

The outcome is predetermined at the end of the over. Right now, everyone's focus is on whether Rizvi can earn a hundred. Rizvi needs 17, DC needs 25.

After a pause, do hitters frequently go out?

Rohit Sharma was dismissed shortly after the stoppage in the first innings. Pathum Nissanka had the same thing during the second innings. It's a common misconception that teams lose a wicket shortly after a break. Is that actually the case, though? After carefully examining the data, Shiva Jayaraman discovered the following:

Only 24.65% of bowlers hit within six balls of the timeout, according to data from 397 IPL matches since 2019 (out of the 480 played before this match, where precise timeout data is available). The total strike rate for bowlers in these matches is over two balls lower at 20.77, while the balls-per-wicket ratio within six balls of a timeout is 22.21. Therefore, contrary to common belief, wickets do not fall as frequently following a timeout.

Apr 4, 2026, 6:28 PM

DC wins the game thanks to Rizvi

Despite his slow start, Rizvi is demonstrating that his last game's innings was not a flash in the pan. He faces Bosch when the game is in the balance. In a 20-run over, he cuts him over deep point, ramps him behind the wicket, slashes him over mid-off, and sends him down the ground. You can sense that he has given DC the upper hand in this match.

He hits consecutive sixes down the ground in the following over by using his feet against Markande. He reached his fifty from 31 balls with the first of those.

After 12, DC 107/3 need 56 from 48 balls

Apr 4, 2026, 6:18 PM

Santner receives Nissanka

This indicates that the Dhir drop only costs three runs. The delivery was hurried at Nissanka, but it was somewhat brief. He ended up top-edging it in the direction of the short, beautiful leg after going for the pull. To finish the catch, Markande sprinted to his right and made a slide.

The new batter is Miller. This time, DC will preserve Stubbs for later.

Nissanka is dropped by Dhir

In the ninth over, Bosch creates an opportunity. Nissanka gives him an upsetting flip in the direction of the deep-backward square leg. Running to his right, Naman Dhir jumps forward in an effort to make a catch that is knee high. This one doesn't stick, even though he is usually a safe fielder.

Rizvi delivers a full delivery over Dhir's head at deep square leg later in the over.

It's a difficult pitch to bat

Rohit stated at the innings break that it was not an easy pitch to bat, and it appears that making strokes has gotten more harder. DC has only managed 15 runs in the last three overs, including a powerplay over. Rizvi has only managed 10 off 16, while Nissanka is on 41 off 26.

Counterattacks by Nissanka

Nissanka Pathum counterattacks. He pulls Chahar to the fine-leg fence after flaying Bumrah through covers in the second over. He gets an inside edge on a flick to Santner in the fourth over, and it beats short fine leg. He reverses course on the subsequent delivery, hitting Santner over a leaping Rohit at cover.

He pulls Shardul Thakur over square leg for the first six of the chase in the following over. The next ball is lofted above Shardul's head after he goes full. Nissanka charges at him two balls later, smashing him over mid-off.

Mayank Markande is brought in by MI as an Impact Player at the conclusion of the over. Rohit leaves.

In early danger, Bumrah runs out of Rana, DC

The fresh ball is shared by Jasprit Bumrah. His record at the Arun Jaitley Stadium is not very good. He actually has the poorest economy (8.97) here out of all the locations where he has played at least five Twenty20 matches. However, he has taken a wicket with a direct hit in his first over. Rana hesitates before deciding to go for the single after tapping him on the leg. Bumrah sprints in the direction of the ball, fields it, flips it, and strikes the stumps directly at the non-striker's end. Rana was well short despite the dive. How brief? The third umpire wasn't necessary.

Mukesh Kumar is replaced as Impact Player by Sameer Rizvi.

Early strikes by Chahar

For the first time in the IPL, Rahul is sent to Chahar

In the previous game, KL Rahul went out on the first ball. He lasts three balls this time. Rahul tries to flick when Deepak Chahar bowls an inswinger on the pads, but he nicks it to the keeper.

He has reached Chahar for the first time in the IPL. He had previously set an IPL record for the most runs scored by a batter against a bowler without being removed, scoring 159 off 100 balls against him.

Apr 4, 2026, 5:20 PM

Rohit: A rather sluggish wicket

Rohit Sharma: This wicket appears to be fairly sluggish. Before you play your shots, you must wait. The bowlers have the opportunity to take advantage of the difficult shot-making. Squeezing them into the first six is necessary, and then we'll see how it goes. Even with the new ball, it's two-paced. Continuing to hit through the ball was difficult.

I am aware that Kuldeep like to take DRS as soon as there is a 50/50 probability [about the caught-behind appeal he survived]. I therefore enjoyed myself a little bit out there. Unfortunately, though, I was removed in the subsequent over.

Apr 4, 2026, 5:16 PM

MI ends with 162 for 6.

Natarajan bowls a superb 19th over. He removes Naman Dhir and concedes just four. MI reaches 162 for 6 in the 20th over when Corbin Bosch hits two fours off Mukesh's final two deliveries. Only 38 arrive from the final four overs in spite of this.

Apr 4, 2026, 5:00 PM

Santner sustains MI

Santner's batting has recently really improved. He demonstrated that during the T20 World Cup and is demonstrating it once more. He has already picked up two fours in his short time at the crease: one from Ngidi and one from Natarajan. He is now at 13 off 8.

For SKY, fifty and out

After 14 overs, with MI 100 for 4, Suryakumar Yadav chooses to pursue Kuldeep Yadav. He knocks the bowler over his head as he moves down the track. Naman Dhir makes what may be the day's best shot in the same over. The ball travels all the way as he simply chips Kuldeep inside out over more cover. MI takes 17 from that over in total.

Suryakumar reaches his fifty off 35 balls in the following over. Ngidi, however, gets him the subsequent ball. It is a length delivery that stays slightly low, slipping beneath Surya's attempted pull and striking him in the rear leg. The umpire is certain, but Surya requests a review. It would have struck the top of the middle stump, according to the ball-tracking.

MI 85/4, Rutherford leaves

Rutherford is limited to seven balls. He attempts to challenge Nigam but is unable to get past the square-leg barrier. Running to his right from deep-backward square leg, Mukesh completes the catch and gives Kuldeep, who was approaching from deep midwicket, a hug.

In the 12th over, that leaves MI 85 for 4. Surya is joined in the middle by Naman Dhir.

Apr 4, 2026, 4:15 PM

Rohit receives Axar

Rohit is once again defeated by Axar, who has a strong record against him. This time, there is no question about it. You seldom ever need those in T20s, but it wasn't a particularly good delivery. It was a little off-kilter. Rohit retreated and struck hard in the direction of cover. However, Nitish Rana leaped and finished the catch before he could clear him. Rohit finds it unbelievable.

It's a left-right combo in the middle thanks to new hitter Sherfane Rutherford.

A caught-behind appeal is won by Rohit

Today, Kuldeep Yadav makes his bowling debut. Rohit appears to have been strangled down the leg side by Kuldeep after he smashes his fourth ball through covers. There was a deflection when Rohit attempted a sweep. Rohit appeared to have begun to walk for a brief moment. But all he was doing was getting back on his feet and heading for square leg.

DC accepted the review since it was worth the risk, however the UltraEdge revealed that the ball only touched the pad and made no contact with the bat.

The innings' first six

For that, MI needs seven overs. Nigam is thrown to the ground by Rohit when he skips down the track to him. However, one brings two. Suryakumar sweeps Axar over backward square leg on the opening ball of the subsequent over.

Ngidi's slower ball versus Rohit

Right now, Ngidi has one of the trickiest slower balls. He nearly defeats Rohit by bowling the final over in the powerplay. Unfortunately for Ngidi, it goes wide of short fine leg for four after dipping and striking the inner side of Rohit's bat's toe end.

Another slower one is attempted by Ngidi. But this time, Rohit seizes the initiative. He moves along the track, reaches the ball's pitch, and runs it through covers for an additional four.

Axar comes on straight away when there are two right-handed hitters in the middle. Furthermore, he has an excellent record against both Surya and Rohit.

In the IPL, Suryakumar Yadav strike 88.4 against Axar Patel (61 runs, 69 balls, 1 dismissal).

In the IPL, Rohit Sharma's strike rate against Axar Patel was 91.3 (63 runs, 69 balls, 3 dismissals).

Rickelton and Tilak go to Mukesh

Mukesh strayed on both sides of the wicket in his first over, but he tightens his line in this over and instantly reaps the rewards. Rickleton appears to go big after two dots, but he ends up miscuing it towards mid-off since it's that in-between length, just outside off. Axar pouches it after taking a few paces to his right.

At number three, Tilak Varma lasts for just two balls. When Mukesh bowls a knuckleball at 114.7 kph, Tilak chips it back to him. Mukesh tumbles forward to finish one of the simpler caught-and-bowleds.

Suryakumar, the stand-in skipper and new batter, receives a freebie on the pads and flicks it away for four.

Rohit begins with a boundary as well

Rohit immediately approaches Lungi Ngidi, who is on the other end. After striking the bat's outside half, the ball dribbles past the first slip for a four. Ngidi strays on the pads two balls later, much like Mukesh, and Rohit flicks him uppishly to the left of the short fine leg. Thus, there are also two borders in this over.

The slip is out after just one ball

Ryan Rickelton receives a harmless length ball from Mukesh Kumar to start. The opener flicks it away through midwicket for four after it is straight. For that delivery, Nitish Rana was the initial slip. However, Axar moved him to short midwicket following that boundary.

Mukesh wanders down the leg side after three balls. Rickelton's second boundary of the over is an easy selection as he flicks it to fine leg.

Why Rickelton is superior to de Kock

There was talk that Quinton de Kock might take Ryan Rickelton's place as Rohit Sharma's opening partner when MI selected him at the auction. However, Rickelton has remained with MI. Mahela Jayawardene, their head coach, commented on the decision as follows:

"When Quinny [Quinton de Kock] isn't playing, he's not unhappy about anything. He is a component of a system. Additionally, we thought Ryan [Rickelton] was batting pretty well, and since it wasn't broken, we didn't want to make any changes. Thus, it was a simple choice for us to start with Ryan, maintain continuity, and fully support our players."

DC chooses to bowl; Pandya is ill and Suryakumar leads MI

Delhi Capitals choose to bowl against the Mumbai Indians.

At the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi, Axar Patel, the captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC), won the toss and chose to bowl first against the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Hardik Pandya was sidelined for this game due to illness, so Suryakumar Yadav took the toss for MI. The toss was "irrelevant," according to Suryakumar, because MI wanted to bat first and DC wanted to bowl first.

Axar stated that while DC remained the same, MI had to make a few adjustments due to Pandya's absence. Trent Boult left the second position to make room for Corbin Bosch and Deepak Chahar. In an anticipated move, AM Ghazanfar was replaced by Mitchell Santner, who recently joined the team.

Pitch No. 6, which has black soil, is where the game is being played. Last year, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 278 for 3 against Kolkata Knight Riders on the same pitch. The square limits are 60 and 67 meters. The straight line is 73 meters long.

Delhi Capitals: 1 KL Rahul (wk), 2 Pathum Nissanka, 3 Nitish Rana, 4 Axar Patel (capt), 5 David Miller, 6 Tristan Stubbs, 7 Vipraj Nigam, 8 Kuldeep Yadav, 9 Lungi Ngidi, 10 Mukesh Kumar, 11 T Natarajan

Impact Player options: Ashutosh Sharma, Auqib Nabi, Sameer Rizvi, Dushmantha Chameera, Karun Nair

Mumbai Indians: 1 Rohit Sharma, 2 Ryan Rickelton (wk), 3 Tilak Varma, 4 Suryakumar Yadav (capt), 5 Naman Dhir, 6 Sherfane Rutherford, 7 Corbin Bosch, 8 Mitchell Santner, 9 Shardul Thakur, 10 Deepak Chahar, 11 Jasprit Bumrah

Impact Player options: Mayank Markande, Robin Minz, Raj Bawa, Trent Boult, Ashwani Kumar

Apr 4, 2026, 2:57 PM

Hardik is unlikely to participate

We've been informed that Hardik Pandya might not play today. He hasn't been in practice for the past two days either. He might be replaced by Suryakumar Yadav.

Apr 4, 2026, 2:22 PM

The IPL 2026 version of Rohit Sharma

Both modern and vintage. Following the team's triumph over KKR, Sruthi Ravindranath delved further into the MI batter's strategies:

"Rohit hasn't played a proper Twenty20 match in ten months. However, he did not bat out of touch in his opening IPL encounter in his 19th season. Instead, he simply became comfortable and changed into an other plane.

Apr 4, 2026, 1:44 PM

"You must continue to have an attacking mindset."

Particularly in high-scoring Twenty20 matches on batting-friendly pitches, spinners may not have it easy, but Kuldeep Yadav has some ideas on how they might take advantage of the situation.

"Sticking to their strengths is crucial for spinners. Sometimes, when the batter puts you under pressure, you turn away from your advantages and look for a safer way out. I think it's ideal for me to concentrate on my skills and bowl in accordance with the batsman's strengths, style of play, and current circumstances. And read batters all the time. What does he expect from you? Basically, try to keep one step ahead of him at all times, anticipate his actions, and bowl appropriately. However, if your strength is being an attacking spinner, don't let that go because it's who you are. If you're trying to gain wickets for your team, there's nothing greater than that, and that's what the team also expects from you. It may or may not occur, but you must have an aggressive mindset."

As the IPL intensifies the pandemonium, Rizvi comes to the rescue

When DC played their first game of the season, Sameer Rizvi was born or reborn as a star. This is the tale of how the 22-year-old altered the Lucknow Super Giants game.

Apr 4, 2026, 1:00 PM

The slower-ball threat by Ngidi

Conditions and pitch

Pitch No. 6, which has recently been good for batting, will host the game. Last year, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 278 for 3 against Kolkata Knight Riders on the same pitch. But the weather can ruin things. There is a risk of thunderstorms and cloud cover.

Apr 4, 2026, 12:49 PM

Boult vs. Rahul might be the major match

  • In Twenty20 cricket, KL Rahul's strike rate against Trent Boult is 150.53 (140 runs off 90 balls, three dismissals).
  • In the IPL, Rohit Sharma has had trouble scoring freely against Axar Patel. With three dismissals, his strike rate against him is 91.30 (63 runs off 69 balls).
  • In T20s, Bumrah has kept Miller, Tristan Stubbs, and Axar silent. Miller's strike rate against him is 117.30, while Stubbs' is 69.56 and Axar's is 101.92.
  • Ngidi's economy rate of 6.84 is second only to Mustafizur Rahman's 6.22 among those who have bowled at least ten overs at the end of Twenty20 matches this year.

Apr 4, 2026, 12:27 PM

Lungi Ngidi and Jasprit Bumrah are highlighted

Lungi Ngidi has become one of the best fast bowlers in the shortest format in recent months. At an economy rate of 7.19, he claimed 12 wickets in seven games during his outstanding T20 World Cup. In the 2026 Indian Premier League, he began similarly, scoring 3 for 27 against the Lucknow Super Giants. An early contender for Ball of the Tournament is his slower, dipping shot that dismissed Nicholas Pooran.

Possibly the best T20 bowler, Jasprit Bumrah has a slower ball that is just as deceiving. However, he has a poor record in Delhi. He has the lowest economy rate (8.97) at Arun Jaitley Stadium out of all the locations where he has played at least five Twenty20 matches. Given his record against the DC batters, Bumrah is anticipated to rectify what appears to be a statistical anomaly (see stats and trivia section).

Apr 4, 2026, 12:02 PM

Mitchell Santner has became a member of the Michigan team

DC will probably remain on the same side. Their impact player may be the sole area to modify. They can choose Ashutosh Sharma or Sameer Rizvi, depending on the circumstances of the match.

Delhi Capitals (probable): 1 KL Rahul (wk), 2 Pathum Nissanka, 3 Nitish Rana, 4 Axar Patel (capt), 5 David Miller, 6 Tristan Stubbs, 7 Sameer Rizvi/Ashutosh Sharma, 8 Vipraj Nigam, 9 Kuldeep Yadav, 10 Lungi Ngidi, 11 Mukesh Kumar, 12 T Natarajan

After joining the team, Mitchell Santner is expected to take AM Ghazanfar's place in the playing XII.

Mumbai Indians (probable): 1 Rohit Sharma, 2 Ryan Rickelton (wk), 3 Tilak Varma, 4 Suryakumar Yadav, 5 Hardik Pandya (capt), 6 Naman Dhir, 7 Sherfane Rutherford, 8 Mitchell Santner, 9 Shardul Thakur, 10 Jasprit Bumrah, 11 Mayank Markande, 12 Trent Boult

Apr 4, 2026, 11:45 AM

Overall: MI's superiority against DC

By the time the Mumbai Indians (MI) arrived in Delhi in the 2025 Indian Premier League, they had dropped four of their first five games. However, their victory over the Delhi Capitals (DC) turned out to be the pivotal moment in their campaign. They won six straight games as a result, and they advanced to the playoffs.

They are in Delhi this time after winning their opening IPL match, something they hadn't done since 2012. Furthermore, they have a solid record against DC. They have a 5-2 head-to-head record since the beginning of 2022 and won both of their previous games. MI appear to be overwhelming favourites when you consider that DC lost four of their five games here last season, with their lone victory coming via a Super Over.

The IPL teams are a ship of Theseus, though. The 2025 DC side is very different from the current one. Pathum Nissanka is their new opener, Nitish Rana is their new No. 3, David Miller is their extra finisher, and Lungi Ngidi is their new seamer. Not to mention a T Natarajan who is fit again. Thus, anticipate a much closer race.

Even though both clubs won their first games, only one will return home with two points on Saturday afternoon. Unless the festivity is ruined by the rain.
