After England lost the Ashes, veteran batsman Joe Root stated that it would be "silly" to alter the management team because the players are "absolutely committed" to the current lineup. After just 11 days of play, England humbly gave up the renowned urn after losing by 82 runs at Adelaide and losing by eight wickets in Perth and Brisbane. Criticism of their subdued preparations and accusations of binge drinking during a mid-series beach vacation in Noosa exacerbated their surrender. With a thrilling four-wicket victory in Melbourne, the team ended an 18-match losing record on Australian territory and reclaimed some pride.

It alleviated pressure on cricket chief Rob Key, captain Ben Stokes, and coach Brendon McCullum, all of whom have expressed a desire to remain in their positions.

"In terms of the playing group, we're absolutely committed to the management," former captain and England's all-time top Test run scorer Root said to English media in Melbourne.

"Yes, we can improve, and we'll keep working in some areas, but the management puts in a lot of effort.

"They might do things a little differently, but I think we've come a long way as a group, and a big part of that is because of the guys we have with us."

Another victory in the fifth Test, which begins on Sunday in Sydney, will bolster management's argument to remain in place.

Coach Chris Silverwood and cricket director Ashley Giles lost their jobs as a result of England's 4-0 defeat during their final tour of Australia in 2021–2022, while Root was captain.

However, Root claimed that the present administration has made significant strides since then.

"You look at the group of players we've got and you look at the guys that were involved in the team when I was captain, four years ago, and you look at their records individually, and every single one of them has improved as a player," stated the skipper.

"This group has gotten better. Given the amount of effort and labour that has been done, I believe it would be absurd to consider changing."

Root declared that it "would be better if we win next week as well" after winning in Melbourne, his first victory in Australia in over ten years.

"If we can build on it and do it again next time it's momentum in the right direction for the next tour here (in 2029-30)," he said.
